News

Former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda has filed a petition seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection to investigations being conducted into the abduction of 11 youths in 2008/2009.

The petition was filed at the Supreme Court seeking  an order  to which would prevent the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officials from being able to arrest him.

Police Inspector Nishantha Silva who is attached to the Organised Crimes Division of the CID, IGP Pujith Jayasundara, and the Director of the CID have been named as respondents in the case.

The petitioner had claimed that the CID was conducting investigations against him after having filed a B report at the Colombo Fort Magistrates Court upon a false witness statement provided by Navy Lieutenant Commander Welagedara on September 13, 2016.

Admiral Karannagoda also alleged that the CID was carrying out investigations against him based on the statements provided by Rear Admiral Sinnaiya in connection to the incident.
