Sri Lanka's highest ranking security forces official Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, is learnt to have left Sri Lanka on Sunday.
The surprise departure came several hours before he was summoned to be present at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters. CID sources told the Sunday Times, they proposed to record a statement from him and produce him before a Magistrate.
These sources said there was evidence against Admiral Wijegunawardena. As Commander of the Navy, he is alleged to have assisted a Navy officer, accused of abduction and death, to flee the country.
Admiral Wijegunaratne is the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), the head of the apex body of top brass of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police. (ENDS)
