About 44, 000 consumers are without power due to damage caused to power lines following heavy rains and strong winds experienced since yesterday (16), the Ministry of Power and Energy stated.
According to the ministry, 13, 000 consumers in Gampaha, 12, 000 in Anuradhapura, 5600 in Bandarawela, 5800 in Matara-Hakmana, 4200 in Trincomlaee, 3000 in Ratnapura and 780 in Nuwara Eliya are without power.
The ministry says restoring power supply to 780 families in Nuwara Eliya will take until tomorrow (17). This is because damage has been caused to a 33, 000 MegaWatt high tension line, which would take time to repair. However, power to other areas will be restored within 24 hours.
