Adverse weather to continue into next week

The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather advisory warning of heavy rains during the next few days. According to the advisory issued by the Met Department, an atmospheric disturbance has formed to the southeast of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal, Under its influence, the prevailing showery conditions are likely to enhance during  next few days (18-21 November 2016 ).

Heavy falls (more than 100mm) can be expected at some places particularly in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Due to the active cloudiness in the Southern sea areas, the possibility of heavy showers and sudden roughness of the sea areas associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) over the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Galle via Pottuvil and Hambantota is possible.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
