The Attorney General has directed the Acting IGP to obtain warrant from court and arrest MP Rishad Bathuideen on charges of criminal misappropriation of public funds and violation of election laws.
This is in relation to the transportation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs ) in Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses to vote at the 2019 Presidential Election, Attorney General's Coordinationg Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne stated.
The MP has faced allegations connected to the transport of 12, 000 IDPs from Puttalam to Mannar on SLTB buses to vote during the 2019 presidential election. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which had been under Mr Bathiudeen then, is alleged to have released Rs 9.5 million in funds to transport the IDPs.
