Update: The Colombo High Court today (May 24) issued summons on Senior DIG Anura Senanayake over charges of concealing information on the murder of slain ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.
High Court Judge Aditya Patabendige today instructed that summons be issued on the Senior DIG after the Attorney General filed indictments against him over the murder case yesterday.
AG files charges against Former SDIG Senanayake over Thajudeen murder case
The Attorney General has moved court against Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake for concealing information on the murder of slain ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.
Charges against the former Senior DIG have been filed under Section 198 of the Penal Code at the High Court.
Mr. Thajudeen was said to have been killed in a motor accident at Narahenpitiya on May 17, 2012. However, a magisterial inquest revealed that the ruggerite had been murdered.
Court had then issued orders to apprehend the suspects believed to have been implicated in the incident.
Senior DIG Senanayake, Former Narahenpitiya Police Crimes OIC Sumith Champika, and former Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Professor Ananda Samarasekara had been named as suspects but were subsequently released on bail.
However, the Attorney General filed charges against the former Senior DIG alone.
