The Attorney General (AG) has filed indictments against the suspects involved in the Welikada Prison riots and the elephant racketeering case today (Jul 04) .
Accordingly, notices were issued on the suspects involved in the prison riots to appear before court on July 19, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, co-ordinating secretary to the AG said.
The accused in the case are Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa, former Prisons Superintendent Emil Ranjan Lamahewa, and prisons officer Indika Sampath.
Meanwhile, the suspects in the elephant trafficking case including elephant racketeer Niraj Roshan alias 'Ali Roshan' have been issued notice to appear before court on July 18.
Two special judge benches had been appointed by the Chief Justice at the High Court yesterday upon the request of the Attorney General, State Counsel Jayaratne noted.
