The Attorney General has requested the Chief Justice to appoint a three-member High Court judge bench to hear the 2012 Welikada prison riots case.
Charges have been levelled against Police Narcotics Bureau Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa, former Prisons Superintendent Emil Ranjan Lamahewa, and prisons officer Indika Sampath, over the case.
They have been accused of killing 27 inmates inside the Welikada Prison in 2012. At present, the case is being heard at the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
