The Attorney General (AG) has urged the Acting Police Chief to investigate into the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)'s delayed probe into journalist Keith Noyahr’s abduction case.
In a letter to Acting Police Chief Chandana Wickramaratna, AG Dappula de Livera noted that a letter had been sent to the CID on July 18 instructing further investigations into the incident.
However, he pointed out that the CID has not reported back to the AG's Department for nearly two months in order to obtain legal advice to proceed with the case.
AG De Livera, in the letter, instructed that the CID must report back to the AG's Department on the steps it had taken to act on the previous letter.
He had also sought the time period required by the CID to carry out the probe and the manner in which the investigations would take place.
Journalist Keith Noyahr had been abducted and assaulted in 2008. Ten individuals have been named as suspects over the case which is being heard at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's court.
