The agriculture sector will be developed in order to generate more income for the country, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday (Apr 07).
Addressing the 'Aluth Sahal Mangalya' (National New Rice Harvest Ceremony) in Anuradhapura, the Premier noted that the government is taking steps to modernise farming activities.
Mr. Wickremesinghe also pointed out that a record harvest of 300,000 metric tonnes of paddy has been recorded during this Maha season.
The 'Aluth Sahal Mangalya' was organised for the 52nd time this year under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The ceremony is an ancient agricultural ritual to offer the inaugural harvest to the triple gem of Buddhism.
