A team of Air Force personnel are to be deployed to Central Africa in September for UN helicopter deployment activities as a part of its peacekeeping activities in the region.
The contingent would comprise 18 officers and 92 airmen from the No 5 contingent of the Aviation Unit which held its passing out parade yesterday (Aug 5), the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) headquarters said.
Addressing the event, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sumangala Dias stated that the UN has appreciated the services of Sri Lanka's aviation contingents deployed in South Sudan and Central African Republic.
He noted that air force personnel had gained praise due to their professional conduct and devotion towards peackeeping duties in their respective regions.
Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, members of the Air Force Board of Management and family members were present at the passing out parade.
