A lighting strike by Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Wednesday didn’t affect airline passengers badly other than a 15 minute delay, officials said.
The strike was held from 12 noon – 2.00 pm launched by Sri Lanka Customs.
Airport and Aviation Executive Director Johanne Jayaratne told the Business Times that they had introduced a new X- ray machine and this had not been congruent with the checks carried out by the Customs at the BIA, and this led to the strike.
He noted that the matter was resolved through discussions with Customs as a result of which the strike had been called off.
SriLankan Airlines said that two of its flights bound for Singapore and London were delayed in addition to Mihin Air flights to Lahore and Shanghai. (SD)
