The Excise Department has ordered all liquor outlets to be closed on October 3 in line with World Temperance Day, while 1000 officers will be deployed to carry out raids.
Deputy Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said that raids would be carried out across all licensed stores in the country to ensure that the sale of liquor does not take place.
Legal action would also be taken against those involved in the transportation, production and the storage of illicit liquor, he said.
Mr. Kumarasinghe said that the Excise Department would deploy 1000 officers from 58 Excise Centres across the country to carry out these raids.
