The Appeal Court will conduct proceedings from March 1, 2019, to hear the Attorney General's appeal regarding the former Chairman of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha and three suspects who were sentenced by the Colombo High Court over their involvment in the murder of British National Khuram Sheikh and the rape of his girlfriend in 2011.
The Colombo High Court in 2014 sentenced the four suspects to a 20 -year jail term .
However, the Attorney General filed an appeal against the verdict claiming the sentencing was not fitting for the crime committed.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
