An appeal petition filed by seven death row inmates over the rape and murder of schoolgirl Sivaloganathan Vithiya in Jaffna was fixed for May 19 by the Supreme Court.
The order was issued when the case was taken up before a three-member judge bench today (Dec 6).
The Jaffna High Court sentenced the appellants to death over charges of abduction, rape, and murder of 18-year old Sivaloganathan Vithiya on May 13, 2015.
Accordingly, they had appealed to the Supreme Court seeking to reduce their punishment.
The petition is to be heard before a five-member judge bench starting from the next hearing.
