The Department of Prisons will call for applications for the post of hangman from next Monday (February 11) until February 25, a Spokesman for the Department said.
Further, necessary steps will be taken to set-up the facilities required to carry out the sentencing.
This comes following repeated calls byPresident Sirisena to implement the death penalty on convicted drug traffickers.
Meanwhile, the list of 17 convicts who will be subject to the death penalty has been handed over to the Presidential Secretariat after having obtained approval from the Attorney General.
