Army officers have been deployed to douse a fire which erupted at the Kurulangala forest reserve in Wellawaya.
Army Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said that around 25 army officers have been deployed to the area.
A Disaster Management Centre (DMC) official noted that the fire had erupted in the afternoon.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
