An Army Intelligence Sergeant has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the abduction and assault of journalist Keith Noyahr in 2008.
Police said the officer, Chamitha Sumith Kumara, had been apprehended after being asked to appear before the CID for a questioning yesterday (Aug 22).
The arrest had been made in line with the instructions issued by Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, Co-ordinating Secretary to the AG said.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the suspect is due to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's court today.
Mr. Gunasekara added that the army intelligence officer is a suspect over the assault of journalist Namal Perera on June 03, 2008 in Kirulapone.
Yesterday, the CID submitted a report on six high profile cases including that of Keith Noyahr's abduction, to the AG's Department.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara told reporters that the investigations into the abduction and assault of the journalist could be completed within the next two months.
So far, nine suspects have been arrested over the assault of journalist Keith Noyahr, he noted.
