Army Intelligence officer Lalith Rajapaksa has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the assault of editor Upali Tennakoon in 2009.
The arrest was set in motion after the CID matched the fingerprints found in a van used on the day of the assault to that of Rajapaksa.
The suspect had been serving as a member of the controversial Tripoli Army Camp in Maradana which is alleged to have been involved in certain assault cases.
Rajapaksa is due to be produced before the Gampaha Magistrate's court today (Jul 8).
