An army officer has died during a skydiving training session after his parachute failed to open on time, police said.
The incident had taken place at the Air Force Camp in Uhana, Ampara at around 8 am today (Aug 20).
Police said the 42-year old soldier identified as Champika Kumarasinghe had been pronounced dead upon admission to the Ampara Hospital.
He is a resident of Kamburupitiya who had been attached to the Kudaoya Commando Training School.
