Army personnel accused in Noyahr abduction given bail

News

Six military intelligence personnel who were in remand custody for their alleged involvement in the abduction and assault of journalist Keith Noyahr in 2008, were granted bail by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court today.

The identification parade which was due to be held today was canceled as Mr. Noyahr failed to appear in court.

Keith Noyahr, then Deputy Editor of "The Nation" newspaper, went missing in May 2008. He was subsequently released by his abductors after being severely assaulted.

Police yesterday said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had been able to find the van allegedly used to abduct Mr. Noyahr parked at a house in Piliyandala.
