A stack of army uniforms and live ammunition were discovered at the residence of an individual believed to be the leading hitman of druglord Makandure Madush in Kumuburupitiya.
Investigations have revealed that the individual had previously served as a former lance corporal of the Army.
The father of this individual was taken into custody by the police for questioning.
Police officers also discovered a handcuff that is believed to have been used in the theft involving a diamond and some gems worth Rs 700 million.
The former lance coroporal was attached to the Sapugaskanda army camp and was a suspect in many cases, police said adding that the individual had fled the army.
Investigations have commenced to arrest the suspect.
