Parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe - the assistant chief government whip in Parliament, has resigned from his position following yesterday's defeat of the tablehead expenditures of two ministries.
In his resignation letter, Mr. Marasinghe stated that the Chief Government Whip, Deputy Chief Government Whip and the Assistant Chief Government Whip must be held responsible over yesterday's budgetary allocations defeat for not ensuring that the government parliamentarians were present during the vote.
MP Marasinghe proceeded to state that although it was the duty of all parliamentarians in the government to ensure that they were present during the vote, he could not absond being held responsible over the defeat as the assistant chief government whip.
Further, the parliamentarian had extended his sincere apologies to Ministers Vajira Abeywardena and Patali Champika Ranawaka whose tablehead expenditures were defeated in Parliament yesterday.
He also pledged to fulfill his duties as a parliamentarian of the United National Party (UNP) with utmost enthusiasm and responsibility.
