The Australian High Commission has dismissed rumours of Sri Lankan illegal immigrants being welcomed into Australia.
Australian High Commissioner Bryce Hutchesson, in a press release said that "the tough border protection policies that have secured Australia's borders against the threat of people smuggling and prevented people form dying at sea remain in place".
"If you attempt to come illegally by boat, you will be caught" Mr. Hutchesson forewarned those attempting to do so.
The release also noted that Australia had deported 827 people including 166 Sri Lankans to their own country's ever since the implementation of Australia's toughest ever border protection measures in 2013.
