A decision to postpone the tender for fixing a gas turbine to generate 130 Mw at the Kelanitissa power station has raised concerns in the Power and Energy Ministry.
The tender was initially due to be awarded mid this year, but was postponed by the former Ministry secretary until Dec16. The New Ministry had postponed it until today (Dec 17), however, it has been further delayed until next month.
Ministry sources said that the decision would mean that the CEB will push for emergency power purchases.
They said that delaying the tender process will also delay the fixing of the turbine to around April next year.
