The Bakery Owners Association today conveyed its demand to Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
The bakery owners pointed out that egg prices had shot up to Rs 22 per egg and therefore it would be difficult for them to keep their prices low.
The demand came despite egg producers claiming on Sunday that they could provide eggs to the market at prices between Rs 18.00 and Rs 19.00.
However, bakery owners point out that if eggs are imported the prices will be lower than the local market prices.
Minister Gunawardena promised to bring up the issue at the next cabinet meeting.
