A Bangladesh naval ship, 'BNS Bangabandhu' carrying a consignment of relief goods for the flood affected people, arrived to the country yesterday, Defence ministry said. Sri Lanka Navy accorded a ceremonial welcome to the Bangladeshi ship upon it arrival at the Colombo Port.
The ship left from the Port of Chittagong to Sri Lanka on May31 carrying relief materials worth over Rs. 200 million including dry ration, drinking water, water filters, generators, tents, medicine and clothes.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Sri Lanka, HE Tarik Ahsan, Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management, S.S Miyanawala, Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha De Silva, Defence Advisor of the Bangladesh High Commission in Sri Lanka, Commodore Aslam Parvez and a number of officers from the Naval Headquarters were present during the handing over of relief goods. "BNS Bangabandhu" is scheduled to leave Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
