The body of a 64-year old man trapped under the rubble of a shop due to a landslide in Ginigathhena was recovered this morning.
Mohamed Jamaldeen, 64, a stationery shop owner, was reported to have been missing after a landslide damaged 10 houses in the area. His remains have been sent to the Nawalapitiya hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The National Building Research Organisation had yesterday issued landslide warnings to several districts after heavy rains and winds battered the island yesterday.
Meanwhile, a portion of the Kandy road in Ginigathhena has been closed for traffic as a safety precaution from landslides.
