The body of the second suspect who evaded arrest during an illegal sand mining raid in Kinniya by jumping into the Mahaweli river was discovered today (Jan 30).
Police said that the body was found in a joint operation between the Navy and the Police this afternoon.
The body of the first suspect who had also disappeared after having evaded arrest was found last night (Jan 29).
A tense situation took place recently when individulas engaged in an illegal sand mining operation attempted to evade arrest and with area residents began attacking Navy personnel.
The attack left 12 Navy personnel injured while three suspects had escaped in the midst of the incident. However, one suspect was arrested again while two others had fled the area by jumping into the Mahaweli river.
