News

The British Government has unveiled a new design for the UK passport to the press and general public.
The new passport designed and produced by De La Rue will be issued to customers as part of a phased roll out from December this year, De La Rue said in a media statement issued in Colombo on Friday. There are several Sri Lankans, who migrated to Britain or were born there, having UK passports.

It incorporates new features that will enhance the security of the document. This ensures that it will continue to meet both rigorous international standards and be one of the most secure passports in the world, the release said.

The new book celebrates 500 years of creativity in the United Kingdom and features well known images from artists, landmarks, architecture, iconic British innovations and the performing arts,
Home Office Minister for Immigration, James Brokenshire said, “The UK Passport has an international reputation as a trusted and secure travel document”.

He continued “By using some of the most advanced technology and security measure around, this passport design is the most secure that the UK has ever issued”

The release said the new book incorporates a number of brand new security features to make it more difficult than ever for fraudsters to forge copies. These include;
- Advances in the use of security printing using UV and infrared light and specialist inks
- De La Rue’s unique and complex watermarking feature Skylight
- And the use of a single sheet of paper for the bio-data page and rear end cover, De La Rue’s patented Continuous Bio-Data Page - ENDS -
