British State Minister, Lord Tariq Ahmed of Wimbledon, during a discussion with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Oct 1) emphasized the need for international cooperation to fight terrorism, calling it a global threat.
Lord Ahmed, the British State Minister for the Commonwealth and South Asia, had lauded the President's efforts to strengthen the reconciliation process despite the challenges faced due to the Easter Sunday attacks, the President's Office said.
Mr. Sirisena had thanked the UK for its assistance towards strengthening security units, intelligence services, and the Police to probe the terrorist bombings.
The President who is also the Environment Minister had pointed out that the Commonwealth could extend their support towards combatting environmental issues such as climate change.
British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Sarah Hulton and President's Secretary Udaya Seneviratne were also present during the meeting.
