BUDGET 2019 : Production tax on vehicles increased

The production tax of vehicles have been increased in line with this year's annual budget which was put forward by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera today (Mar 05).

Accordingly, the latest tax rates are as follows ;

Petrol vehicles with an engine capacity less than 800cc - Increased by Rs 150,000
Petrol vehicles with an engine capacity less than 1000cc - Increased by Rs 175,000
Petrol vehicles with an engine capacity less than 1300cc - Increased by Rs 500,000

Proposals were also put forward to increase the production tax on hybrid vehicles as follows:

Vehicles with an engine capacity less than 800cc - Rs 250,000
Vehicles with an engine capacity less than 1500cc - Rs 500,000

Further, the production tax on 70 KV electric cars was suggested to be increased by Rs 175,000 while the tax on three-wheelers with an engine capacity less than 200cc is to be increased by Rs 60,000.
