The burqa (face-veil) will not be banned during voting of the upcoming Presidential election, although voters will have to uncover their faces to confirm their identity, a senior Election Commission (EC) official said.
The official noted that this decision had been reached during a meeting between election officers and police officers yesterday (Nov 11).
Accordingly, females who wear the burqa will have to produce any of the required identification documents, and will have to uncover their faces to confirm their identity.
Meanwhile, the EC has also decided to ban mobile phones and bags from being brought into polling centres to prevent photographs of ballot papers being captured.
Voters who bring such items will have to hand them over to a counter which would be set-up for this purpose, before casting their vote.
