A businessman who had posted racial comments on social media in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks has been further remanded until July 19.
The order was issued by Chilaw Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake today (Jul 5).
According to the police, A.H. Mohamed Azwar, a 35-year old resident of Chilaw, had been arrested after the incident had sparked tense situations in the area.
During today's hearing, lawyers appearing for Azwar queried on which grounds their client had been remanded for 57 days without valid charges being levelled against him. They had also sought bail to be granted to the accused.
In response, police told court that its legal branch had completed investigations into this matter and that charges would be filed before court in due course.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be further remanded until the next hearing.
