The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued an extraordinary gazette prohibiting the importing, manufacturing, storing, and distribution or displaying for sale of any hand sanitizer unless it is registered with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).
The gazette, signed by CAA Chairman Maj. General Shantha Dissanayake stated that the NMRA registration number should be displayed in a conspicuous place of the pack or container of such hand sanitizer.
Action against violators will be taken under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 09 of 2003.
