Cabinet approval has been granted to distribute 100,000 tabs to national schools, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said today (Jun 25).
"As the first phase of the project, tabs we will be distributing them among Advanced Level students and teachers at national schools," the Minister explained during an event at the Education Ministry.
The project had previously been halted due to objections raised against the project by President Maithripala Sirisena.
"We were able to confirm the project today due to the assistance extended by the President, Prime Minister and the ministerial cabinet," Mr. Kariyawasam claimed. He noted that the distrbution of these tabs is expected to take place in August or September this year.
The Education Minister opined that the project is a huge step forward in the country's technological advancement.
