Cabinet has approved a proposal put forward by President Maithripala Sirisena for a one -year service extension for STF DIG M R Latiff who retired from his services yesterday (Feb 04).
Over the last two years, DIG Latiff served as the commandant of the STF. He also led the STF in enforcing the law against drug peddlers and organised criminals in the recent past.
Around 798 kilograms of heroin have been seized under his leadership during the past six months alone.
Two of the largest drug busts which were carried out in Kollupitiya and Dehiwela very recently were also carried out under his direction.
The raid in Beruwala which saw 231 kilograms of heroin being nabbed in Beruwala was also led by the DIG Latheef.
