A new scientific schools-based methodology is to be implemented instead of the existing Z-score method to select students to state universities
A Cabinet proposal to this effect which received approval was put forward by the Minister of Education, Dullas Alahapperuma.
The proposal claimed that various anomalies in the facilities and quality of education within the provinces, districts as well as schools had been identified.
Cabinet approved the setting up of a specialist committee of veterans in the education sector to make recommendations for the introduction of a new scientific schools-based methodology.
This new methodology would replace the existing district-based Z-score method currently being used to select students to state universities.
