Cabinet approval has been granted to set-up a Prisons Intelligence Unit to increase efficiency and discipline in the prisons system.
A proposal in this regard had been put forward by Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale during the last cabinet meeting.
Accordingly, the proposed unit will function under the supervision of the Prisons Commissioner General.
This unit would be set up under the Prisons Ordinance act.
