Cabinet nod to allocate land at Mulleriyawa hospital for HIV treatment centre

News

Cabinet approval has been granted to allocate 10 Perches of land at the premises of the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital to construct a HIV/AIDS treatment centre.

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, in his cabinet paper, noted that 'Positive Women's Network' (PMW) - a non-governmental organisation (NGO) had been running the treatment centre over the last decade.

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria had provided financial assistance to run this facility.

Individuals could undergo  medical tests at this centre to test whether they were HIV positive or not.

However, PMW is currently running the treatment centre at a resident which has been leased out to the NGO, the Health Minister had stated in his cabinet proposal.

Accordingly, a 10-perch land belonging to the government at the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital will be allocated to construct the HIV Treatment Centre in near future.
