Cancel second term exams; utilise exam time period to cover missed lessons : CTSU

News

The Ceylon Teachers Services Union (CTSU) has urged the cancellation of the second term exams in order to use that allocated time period to cover up missed academic sessions.

In a letter addressed to Education Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe, the Union insisted that the timeframe allocated for exams be used to cover up lessons which were missed following the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

"Allocating funds to conduct exams in the backdrop of an uncertain date to commence school sessions in an appropriate manner, will not serve any purpose," CTSU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said in the letter.

Mr. Stalin also noted that teachers have now been instructed to structure the lesson plans in a manner in which the enitre syllabus could be completed within the third term. He observed that these lesson plans would be affected if teachers engage in evaluating exam papers during this time frame.

Accordingly, the CTSU urged the Education Secretary to instruct the relevant officials to cancel the second term examinations and utilise that time period for teaching-learning activites.
