The case against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and seven others for misusing state funds will be heard on a daily basis from January 22 before the Special High Court.
The suspects have been accused of misappropriating Rs 33.9 million in the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial museum.
The Chairman of the Land Reclamation Commission (LRC), today (Jan 17) had submitted a report before court on the documents that were required in the case. He also said that the necessary documents requested by the defendants would be submitted in due course.
Meanwhile, Deputy Solicitor General Dileep Peiris during the hearing had claimed that an official of the LRC - a chief witness in the case, was planning to leave the country before the commencement of the daily hearings.
Accordingly, the three member trial-at-bar had responded saying that the witnesses who are planning to leave the country before the daily hearing of the case, should inform court before doing so.
Six charges have been filed by the Attorney General (AG) under the Public Property Act and the Penal Code, against the suspects. The AG has also submitted 105 case objects including documents while also naming 80 witnesses in the case.
