Five cases filed against MP Johnston Fernando and two others for utilising the services of 153 Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) employees for political activities has been fixed for April 05.
This was announced when the case was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrates Court today (Mar 22).
Accordingly, the preliminary objections of the accused in the case would be filed before courts on April 05.
Cases were filed by the Bribery Commission against former Minister Johnston Fernando, former CWE Chairman Iraj Fernando, and former CWE Director (Operations) Mohamed Zakeer for committing this fraud.
The Bribery Commission claims that the suspects could be penalised for violating Section 70 of the Bribery Act by committing this offence between 2010 and 2014.
