Case against Wimal over organising protest against UN chief to be heard on May 13

The case filed against parliamentarian Wimal Weerawangsa and five others for organising a protest that obstructed traffic in Bauddhaloka Mawatha will be heard on May 13 before the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

A video recording of the protest was submitted by the Kuruduwatte Police as a case evidence to Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today.

Weerakumara Dissanayake, Jayantha Samaraweera, Piyasiri Wijenayake, Roger Senaviratne and Mohamed Muzammil are the other suspects involved in the case.

Charges have been levelled against these suspects for organising a protest on February 06, 2016 against the arrival of UN Sceretary General Zaid Raad al Hussain to Sri Lanka.

Police alleged that the protestors had used loudspeakers without obtaining prior permission.
