The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today (Dec 6) that he will seek further legal action to be taken against MP Ranjan Ramanayake.
He made these remarks when Mr Ramanayake's case was taken up for hearing today in the Supreme Court and accordingly, it is expected that a charge sheet against the accusations of contempt of court will be filed.
Additional solicitor general Sanjaya Rajaratnam had told court that the remarks made by MP Ramanayake against the judiciary can be considered as contempt of court under Article 105 of the constitution.
The case was postponed until February 26 since the respondents were not given notice to be present before courts.
The postponement was announced when the case was heard before a two-member judge bench comprising Justices Ewa Warnasundara and L.T.B. Dehideniya, today (Dec 07)
The UNP MP has been accused for making defamatory remarks while commenting on the ongoing case involving the FR petitions that have been filed aginst the President's gazette to dissolve Parliament.
MP Ramanayake, during a telivision discussion had said that three judges of the five-member trial-at-bar were in favour of his faction.
The registrar of the Supreme Court had submitted a CD containing video footage of his statement.
