IGP Pujith Jayasundara has decided to award cash incentives to police officers and those who provide information on individuals who possess illegal firearms.
The cash prizes will be awarded between January 01 and March 31 this year.
The possession of illegal firearms still remains rampant although the Police have made several arrests in the recent past, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Accordingly, a three-month special search operation which commenced on January 1 to apprehend these individuals is currently underway.
IGP Jayasundara has ordered that the cash prizes must be awarded to the relevant individuals within two weeks of arresting the suspect.
