The Constitutional Council has approved the name of President's Counsel Dappula de Livera to the post of Attorney General today (May 07), the Speaker's Office said.
The approval was granted during a meeting attended by members of the Constitutional Council this afternoon.
Mr. De Livera was appointed as the Acting Attorney General by President Maithripala Sirisena on April 29 since the post of Attorney General which was held by Jayantha Jayasuriya fell vacant after he took oaths as the Chief Justice.

Former Minister and leader of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) Douglas Devenanada was arrested by the Criminal investigation Department (CID) today.
Parliamentarian Ramanathan Archuna had been released on bail after he was produced before Fort Magistrate’s Court for failing to appear in connection with the ongoing case.
