The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) losses for this year have been accounted at Rs 85 billion so far, according to estimates of the Board, Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera said.
Emergency power purchases due to failure to construct power plants and the delay in the construction of LNG power plants which could have generated 1,500 Mw are among the reasons for the losses.
“I have called for a report about the delayed power plants and the possibility of reconstructing them soon”, he told Times Online.
Mr Amaraweera said that measures are being taken to reduce the losses and it is a challenge to maintain the institution with these losses.
