Attempts are being made to legalise the circular on the increment of wages solely for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) management despite being ruled illegal by the Supreme Court, CEB Joint Trade Union Convenor Ranjan Jayalal said today (Apr 09).
While claiming that efforts are underway to legalise this circular by means of a cabinet paper, Mr. Jayalal said that employees would resort to indefinite trade union action if the government takes measures to this effect.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Convenor pointed out that the government has continuously ignored their claims that the circular 2014/46 which offered a substantial increase in the wages of administrative employees was illegal.
He further noted that the efforts taken by the government to legalise this circular was shameful especially at a time when difficulties are being faced in providing an uninterrupted power supply to the people.
