Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake has rejected the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)'s request to purchase electricity from independent power producer (IPP)'s next year.
The CEB had requested to purchase 24 megawatts of power from each IPP, since agreements with seven IPP's are due to end this year.
The seven IPP's contribute 100 megawatts of power to the national electricity grid.
However, the minister had informed the CEB that he would only permit government to government purchases.
